About SCAT

SCAT (School and College Ability Test) is a computer-based assessment tool administered by the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) for students in Grades 2-12. It is used to measure the abilities and achievements of students in various academic areas and is commonly used in educational settings to gauge a student’s aptitude and potential for success in school.

The SCAT assesses students’ verbal and quantitative reasoning skills. The verbal section evaluates vocabulary, analogies, and verbal reasoning abilities, whilst the quantitative section focuses on mathematical problem-solving and quantitative reasoning skills.

The test is known for its rigorous and challenging content, which requires students to think critically, analyze information, and solve complex problems. In order to meet the elegibility scores for CTY, students will have to demonstrate ability that is approximately two grades above their current grade.

Here at Aegis Advisors, we help prepare students for the test by teaching them how the assessment is structured, get them comfortable with the style of questions, fill knowledge gaps, and teach exam techniques and strategies that should enable each student to perform to the best of their ability on test day.
